Newhall/Midway areas Neighbourhood Priorities
This update outlines the progress made on the community priorities set for your area by the Local Policing Inspector Craig in collaboration with the Safer Neighbourhood Supervisors, Sgt Adams and PCSO Supervisor Wallington-Waite and Partners. Community priorities are reviewed and set on a quarterly basis, guiding the focus of the Safer Neighbourhood Team’s activity, in this update, you’ll find: • A summary of the previous priorities • The actions taken and outcomes achieved • The new priorities for the upcoming quarter
New priorities are determined by analysing local crime trends and incorporating feedback from you, the community, through engagement events, surveys and direct contact. The previous priorities for the Newhall/Midway areas were: 1) Drug use/distribution. 2) Theft of and from vehicles. 3) Anti-social behaviour (ASB)
Action Taken and Outcomes: In relation to Drug use/distribution we have conducted high visibility patrols and plain clothes patrols in hot spot areas, we have utilised stop search powers and progressed intelligence. A warrant has been conducted at Belvoir crescent in Newhall- 2 persons arrested after items located one has since been released with no further action, the other remains under investigation, 1 youth is receiving targeted intervention via Youth offending team for possession of cannabis in Midway, 1 male summons to court for possession of cannabis in Midway, 1 male has been charged with failing to provide in custody following a positive drug swipe at the roadside in Newhall, following an RTC a male was arrested for possession of cannabis.
To deter theft of and from vehicles we have conducted targeted patrols, visited victims of crimes providing crime prevention items such as signal blocker pouches and van security kits to help prevent repeat offences occurring, we have provided crime prevention advice via social media and Derbyshire alert and held crime prevention and tool marking events at Huw Gray’s in Newhall and community catch up events at Garden king Newhall offering crime prevention advice and items.
ASB: - Newhall junior school takes part in our Mini police programme which sees us visit each week to complete workshops and lessons in class, talks around ASB have been given during these sessions. Our Youth engagement team hold regular sessions with pupils to engage at our secondary schools.
New priorities: Following this review, the SNT has identified that the priorities for the upcoming quarter will remain the same: 1) Drug use/distribution. 2) Theft of and from vehicles. 3) Anti-social behaviour (ASB)
For Drug Use/Distribution we will: Conduct proactive patrols within the community, making appropriate use of powers such as stop and search to prevent and detect drug offences. Work with support charities where necessary to address drug use. Engage with the community to gather information and target activity in the right areas. Take positive action when offences are detected.
For Theft of and From Vehicles we will: Continue high visibility and plain clothes patrols in hotspot areas. Share crime prevention advice through social media, community events and Derbyshire Alert. Promote security measures such as tool marking, steering locks and CCTV. Work with partners including local authorities, bordering police forces and national policing teams.
For Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) we will: Conduct high visibility patrols. Work with the Youth Engagement Team to prevent offending and tackle ASB at source. Work with partners to address ASB. Engage with young people through school engagements, raising awareness of anti-social behaviour. Gather feedback from and work with the local community.
